Extra security for wbe.travel’s clients with the Two-Factor Authentication login

We would like to inform you that Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) is now available from wbe·travel.

What is 2FA and how does it work?

Two-factor authentication (also known as 2FA or dual authentication) is a type of multi-factor authentication that increases account security by using two methods to verify your identity when logging in. 2FA usually refers to the second layer of security on top of a password.

Two-factor identification works by using two unrelated authentication methods to secure an account. The second authentication method will need to be verified with the code sent to your email — in addition to your normal login info: username and password.

In wbe·travel’s system, when logging in, the 2FA sends out to the user’s email a unique code associated with that user, that expires in 5 minutes. This particular code is mandatory for the secured login.

With the latest changes in the 2FA mechanism, we allow the users not to enter the code each time they log in if they use the same browser every time. But if the user changes the browser or the device he uses for logging in, the 2FA will be activated for each device/browser particularly and the user will need to enter the code sent to his email, for each particular browser/device he uses.

After 15 days, the system will force the user to update the 2FA. The 15 days is the default period for your account, but we can change it with any period of time you want, for example, for every 3 days, the user has to enter the new code.

The two-step verification of 2FA sometimes feels like a hassle, but it’s crucial for staying safe online. 2FA involves authenticating in two different ways, which provides significant extra security.

Why should you need two-factor authentication (2FA)?

You need two-factor authentication because it’s a more effective way to control access than keeping the user’s personal data protected with only a password. If someone somehow succeeds in hacking the user account protected by 2FA, they’ll still need to know the second access factor, the code sent to the user’s email address.

A login or access method consisting of just a password is not very secure because if someone knows your login info or simply guesses it, they can access your account. It’s much harder to have access to a totally different factor, such as a code sent to your personal email, which is why two-factor authentication is so much more secure.
